We were born on July 2, 2001 at 6:22 and 6:23 pm.
Annika weighed 905 grams (just about 2 pounds) and Mia broke the scale at a whopping 440 grams (that's under a pound!) But not to worry about her small size, if feet are an indication of how big she will get, she is going to be a giant!
Because we were born at only 26 weeks and 4 days, we will spend the next few months at the Intensive Care Nursery in San Francisco Kaiser. We expect to be able to come home by our original due date which is October 5th.
So far, we have made it past many hurdles and are doing better than expected according to our Doctors. Annika had surgery on her PDA which she recovered nicely, (although the stressfull experience took a couple of years off our Mommy and Daddy!)
The reason we were born early was due to a problem with Mia's placenta. She was not getting the necessary blood flow to help her grow and keep her healthy. we thank all the Doctors and Nurses who helped us stay inside Mommy as long as possible.
We are very happy to be in the ICN at Kaiser San Francisco since everyone likes us and is helping us get bigger and stronger. We like the attention we're getting so don't forget to look at our pictures and see how beautiful we are!
