January 2nd
6 Months Old!
So much has happened in the past month! It's hard to believe the girls are already 6 months old! We had a wonderful Christmas with all the Grandmas, Grandpas and Aunts and Uncles. Everyone was thrilled to see how well the girls are doing. This past month we have noticed many developmental milestones have been met. We have seen Annika lifting her head and chest while on her tummy, grab and play with her toys, chew on her hands and toys and laugh out loud. Mia is also amazing us with her constant smiles, chatter and strength in her legs. She loves to suck on her right forefinger, sometimes even more than her binky! Both girls love to help hold their bottles and are also "helping" by holding their bibs and waving them around while eating. In the past 2 weeks Annika has started to roll over to her side from her back. We think she will be rolling all the way over pretty soon.
We had to separate the girls into their own cribs, they were kicking each other and waking each other up. We tried using wedges to keep them separated but they broke through them and someone was always getting her head kicked by someone else. Amazingly, on Christmas Eve the girls decided they were going to sleep through the night. Since then they have been sleeping from 12 midnight to 9am or so! We call it our Christmas miracle! We have been able to migrate back to our own bed with the baby monitor on. They decided to sleep through at the right time because Dean went back to work on Jan. 2nd after having 6 months off to be with the girls. He was very sad to go back but every time he calls in to check up on everyone, Meg puts one of the girls on the line to "talk" to daddy. Mia had her hearing exam and passed without any problems. At their last appt, Mia weighed 8 pounds 9oz and Annika weighed 9 pounds 8 oz. They are growing amazingly fast. Both are still getting breastmilk and formula. We also started the girls on some rice cereal. They weren't too impressed at first but now we think they are enjoying it more. We noticed more stays in than comes out! Annika's reflux seems to be almost gone. She still has some nights when she seems to have some problems but nothing severe. Well, that's it for this month. We will update again next month with the progress report from the girls' developmental appointment next week. We go back to San Francisco and the girls will be able to see all their old nurses from the ICN. Stayed tuned!
